Article Submission, Receipt, and Peer Review Process
The journal Chone, Ciencia y Tecnología accepts article submissions year-round. Authors may submit manuscripts at any time. Approved articles will be scheduled for publication according to the editorial calendar set by the Journal's Editorial Board.
Types of Articles Published by Chone, Ciencia y Tecnología
1. Original Articles
Scientific reports that present the results of original research for the first time. They must not exceed 25 pages.
Suggested structure:
- Introduction: Contextualizes the research, presents previous studies, defines the problem and rationale, and ends with the general objective.
- Materials and Methods: Describes in detail the study environment, population, sampling method, experimental design, techniques, tools, statistical methods, and data analysis.
- Results: Presents findings using tables, charts, graphs, images, etc. This section may be omitted if results are fully presented in the next section.
- Analysis and Discussion: Interprets results in relation to objectives, compares with other studies, highlights new knowledge, discusses anomalies, and suggests future research. This section should account for at least 20% of the total article content.
- Conclusions: Direct, concise, and clearly related to the objectives, results, and title. More than one conclusion is expected.
- References: Must follow APA style as outlined by the journal.
2. Review Articles
Critical literature reviews that analyze and synthesize published research on a specific topic.
Suggested structure:
- Introduction: Defines the theme, objectives, scope, criteria, and relevance.
- Materials and Methods: Describes search strategies, databases, software tools, and other relevant methods.
- Development / Results and Discussion: Systematic analysis of the literature from books, journals, websites, interviews, etc.
- Conclusions: Expresses the author's views, provides suggestions, closes the discussion, and proposes future lines of inquiry.
- References: Required and must follow APA style.
The use of the PRISMA methodology (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) is recommended but not yet mandatory.
3. Essays
Academic essays that explore, interpret, or evaluate a topic from a reflective and well-argued perspective.
Characteristics:
- Serious and well-supported writing on a significant subject.
- Presents and supports a personal viewpoint.
- May follow an implicit structure (introduction, development, conclusions).
- References are required.
- Written with fluidity and critical depth using techniques like comparison, description, explanation, and evaluation.
Editorial Responsibility
Authors are solely responsible for the content of their work. The journal does not necessarily endorse the views or claims expressed in the articles.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Articles are published in the following formats:
- PDF, HTML, DOC (human-readable)
- XML (machine-readable)
The journal uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, a free and open-source content management system widely adopted by scholarly publications.
References
Each article includes a separate reference list accessible from the journal index. The journal follows APA citation style and provides a linked APA referencing guide on its website.
Editorial and Scientific Committees
The Editorial Board is composed of representatives from national and international institutions, including:
- Universidad Laica "Eloy Alfaro" (Chone campus and main campus)
- Universidad de Granma
- Other collaborating entities
An International Scientific Committee and a bank of expert external reviewers also support the editorial process.
Peer Review and Article Selection
All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review, ensuring anonymity for both authors and reviewers.
Reviewer selection criteria:
- Recognized academic qualifications (Master’s or PhD).
- Proven experience in scientific research and publishing.
- Preference is given to reviewers not affiliated with the publishing institution.
- High-impact authors previously published in the journal may be invited as reviewers.
Review Process Phases
- Initial verification by assigned editor:
- Checks compliance with submission guidelines and performs plagiarism screening.
- Editorial pre-selection:
- The Editorial Board decides whether the manuscript proceeds to peer review.
- Peer review stage:
- Each article is sent to two external reviewers via the journal’s platform.
- Review outcomes may be:
- Accept
- Accept with revisions
- Reject
- In case of conflicting reviews:
- A third reviewer will be assigned to break the tie, and the Editorial Board will make a final decision based on the consensus.
- Revision by the author:
- Authors have 2 working weeks to upload the revised version.
- The revised file must be uploaded via the platform (not as a new submission).
- Late submissions may be scheduled for the next issue.
- Final approval:
- Revisions are verified by reviewers or the editor.
- Further adjustments may be requested.
- The editor has the authority to accept, reject, or request modifications.
- The final version undergoes checks for scientific writing, formatting, and accuracy before acceptance.

The time from submission to publication varies based on:
- The volume of submissions
- Reviewer availability
- Article language
The minimum time to publish a preprint version is 2 months, but the full process may take up to one year depending on editorial workload.
